Who we are
Welcome to Beacon Shores!  We believe our community is one of the most livable on Lake Keowee; if not in the entire southeast.  We have a beautiful location, a perfect size, and wonderful people.  We are proud to share a little about our neighborhood.

History/Background

Lake Keowee is a 28,000 acre lake in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  It was constructed in the late 60’s by Duke Power to provide cooling for the Oconee Nuclear Station.  Since its completion in 1971, this beautiful lake has seen controlled development of residential communities on its shores.  Crescent Communities (a real estate development arm of Duke) has been a primary lake property developer and has developed over 30 residential communities around the lake.

Crescent developed Beacon Shores in the late 90’s and the first lots were sold in 1997.  The excellent location of the development made the properties highly desirable and by 2000 over 90% the 118 lots were in private hands and new homes were being constructed on many of the properties.  Currently, there are about 90 homes in Beacon Shores.

The Location

Beacon Shores is uniquely located on the western shore of southern Lake Keowee; or perhaps better stated – in Lake Keowee.  As you can see from this aerial view, Beacon Shores is built on a narrow peninsula that extends almost a mile into the lake.  We are virtually surrounded by the lake.  Eighty-two of the properties are lake front and dockable.  Four of the remaining 36 properties are lakefront but without private docks and many of the remaining 32 have lake views.  All 36 properties have a deeded slip in the community dock.  In addition, we have 4 community owned lake front lots including a beach area and the Amenity/dock area.  (click here for a plat map of the community).

While Beacon Shores enjoys the quiet and privacy of peninsula living, it also provides easy access to shops, restaurants, etc.  Two of the lake’s waterfront restaurants are a 15 minute pontoon cruise away and the shopping and restaurants of Seneca are about 15 minutes by car.  Importantly, the Oconee Regional Medical Center is only 7 miles away and a fire station is less than 2 miles from our entrance.

The Neighborhood

Beacon Shores is a neighborhood.  The 118 properties are located on about 2 miles of roads.  The lots are spacious, but close enough that residents feel part of a neighborhood.  The community has a wonderful mix of people and properties.  Many of our owners are retirees, but there are also a number of residents still working and raising families.  Recent home prices in the community range from $400,000 to over $1.5 million.

With over 120 fulltime residents, the neighborhood enjoys many organized social activities and lots of volunteer opportunities.  But, it also offers a great place for typical neighborhood things like morning walks (with or without your dog), afternoon swims, and evenings on the deck watching the sunset.

The Organization

The volunteer Beacon Shores Owners Association (BSOA) manages the community.  The officers and Board members are elected at our annual meeting and operate according to the Covenants and Bylaws.  Board meetings are held regularly and are well attended by the residents.  There are a number of volunteer committees that operate under the direction of the Board.  Over the years the organization has functioned very effectively and efficiently.
